Olympiacos welcomes Nikola Mijailovic

Olympiacos announces the agreement with Nikola Mijailovic. The international Serbian Outside-hitter (Date of Birth: 8/8/1989) has a height of 1.91m and signed a contract with the men's volleyball team. 

Nikola Mijailovic stated at olympiacossfp.gr:

«It’s a great honor and pleasure for me to join Olympiacos,it was my wish since I  played my first game in Greece! I know what are the goals of Olympiacos, always to be on top and I will do my best to reach them and have amazing moments with the team!».

Olympiacos announces the agreement with Hermans Egleskalns. The international Latvian opposite (Date of Birth: 8/12/1990) has height of 2,03m and signed a new contract coming back to the club that he played durind the 2015-2016 season.

A nice victory in Berlin!

The Olympiacos men's water polo team won over Spandau (11-7) in its 10th group stage match-day. After winning the 21st Greek Cup in Chios, the Reds traveled to Germany with the sole aim of returning to the victories, having come from conecutive defeats by Jug and Barcelona. The finalists' mission was accomplished after the victory which was combined with a good form. Now they are focused on the home game against Szolnoki for the 11th match-day in Papastratio on 11 April.

Qualified to the semi-final!

The women’s volleyball team secured the qualification to the semi-finals of the CEV Challenge Cup. This will be the third time in the last four years that the team qualifies to this round of the competition. The team won the first two sets needed in 45 minutes and thanks to a 3-1 victory in Hungary, qualified. Then the coach made substitutions and the Hungarian team won in the tie-break. The Reds will face the winner of the game “Beziers-Aachen” in the semi-final which will be done on Wednesday (4/3).

A home defeat after three years!

 

Olympiacos had a bad performance and lost the first home game by Barceloneta (15-9) in the derby of the 9th LEN Champions League match-day. This was the first home defeat in Piraeus after three years since 5 April 2017 when the team had lost by Zolnok (4-6). The Reds did a brilliant effort reducing to 6-9 but the overturn wasn’t completed and the team focuses on the next games with five more remaining. Now Olympiacos focuses on the winning of the Greek Cup in Chios in the next week.

A first step for the qualification to the semi-finals!

The women’s team made the first step for the qualification to the Challenge Cup semi-finals winning 3-1 against Bekescsaba in Hungary in the first leg of the quarter-finals. The Reds fought hard and although lost the first set, overturned the game and got a clear victory that gives them the advantage of qualifying in the semi-finals. The second match will be held in Renti on Tuesday 3 March and the Greek team needs two sets to secure the ticket for the next phase.

The first step for the Euroleague final-4

The women’s water polo team made an important step for the qualification to the Euroleague Final-4 winning with 10-8 against Vouliagmeni in Chalandri. The Reds got a significant advantage in the view of the rematch held in Papastrateio on Saturday 28 March. This game was different from the two ones that Olympiacos won with 13-7 and 16-8 comfortably. The game was more closed and balanced with both teams alternating scoring several times.

Qualified to the Challenge Cup quarter-finals!

The qualification for the qualification to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup was celebrated by the women’s volleyball team which won Yenisei Krasnoyarsk (3-1) in the second match held at the Rentis sporting hall. The Reds needed two sets after the victory in the first game and secured the qualification in 44 minutes. In the quarter-finals, Olympiacos will face the winner of the game “Swietelsky Bekescsaba-Calcit Volley Kamnik” with the Hungarian team leading 3-0 in the first leg.

First defeat in Champions League

 
The men’s water polo team was defeated by Jug with 13-9) in the eighth LEN Champions League match-day. After a two-month break due to the national team matches, the Reds were strong leading with 3-1 but the Jug goalkeeper was very good having 11 saves. Although the team had a 3-0 run in the third period failed to overturn the score. Olympiacos remains at the top of the Group A with 19 points and hosts Barceloneta in the next game on 22 February.
