A fine victory over Barceloneta!

Olympiacos, who secured first place in group A on matchday 13, recorded their 12th victory in the LEN Champions League group stages on Wednesday after defeating Barceloneta 14:10 in the final fixture. The hosts took an early 4-1 lead before the Spaniards regrouped to equalize at 5-5 in the second period. Olympiacos made the most of the man advantage opportunities and regained a comfortable 3-goal lead going into the final period. The hosts held off the visitors’ resistance and hang out for the final 14-10 victory.

Genidounias led Olympiacos in scoring with 3 goals while Nikolaidis, Argyropoulos/Kanakakis, and Obradovic each netted two goals. Olympiacos finished the group stages with a 12-1-1 record and claimed first place in Group A with 37 points, nine points ahead of second placed Jug. The ‘’Reds’’ will compete in the Final-8 and will be paired with the fourth placed team from Group B, Spandau from Germany, in a single game knockout match. This will be Olympiacos’ third consecutive appearance in the LEN Champions League Final-8 and their sixth appearance in club history. Two years ago, Olympiacos were finalists in the competition, falling to Jug of Croatia in the final. The Greek champions will be one of the favourites to win this year’s Final-8, which will take place in Genoa, Italy from June 7-9.
