The intermediate meeting of the multisport clubs participated in the European project “Sports For Different Heroes” was held with great success in Belgrade. Representatives of Olympiacos, Lazio Parachuting, Red Star, Hask Mladost and APOEL met to discuss about the progress of the project.
The discussion started around the actions taken place to integrate people with mental retardation and autism since the start of the program (January 2019) to the present, as well as the next steps until its end in June 2020. The participants highlighted the importance of implementing sports activities for people with disabilities and the need for more actions to be taken so as to sensitize the local communities and support their social integration. As they agreed, this could be done through the simulation activities that will be implemented in the next months.
In addition, Olympiacos presented the action “Drawing Mental Disability” which will be implemented for students in collaboration with the Municipality of Piraeus. The next meeting is scheduled in Piraeus in May where all actions will be reviewed and final details will be discussed before the evaluation by the European Commission.
* 'Sport For Different Heroes' aims to raise public awareness and social inclusion of mentally retarded people through sports activities. Sport is an excellent means of integration and adaptation by overcoming any cultural and social barriers and reducing discrimination against these people.
