Olympiacos was competitive against Fenerbache for more than thirty minutes but finally, was defeated by the Turkish team (54-63) in the first game of the Euroleague group stage held in Chalkida. The ‘’Reds’’ weren’t so good at the three-point shots (5/22) and the opponent took this advantage and won the game. At the end, Olympiacos tried to make the counter-attack but finally, didn’t achieve it. Sotiriou and Thomas were the top scorers with 11 points.

Olympiacos started the game well and led with 21-15 in the first period. At the beginning of the second one, Stamati increased the margin to nine points before the Turkish team reacted and reduced to 25-22. Spyridopoulou scored for 27-22 but Fenerbache tied to 31-31 four minutes before the end of the first half. Olympiacos continued with ¼ shots and the Turkish team took the lead with two points (34-36). 

The ‘’Reds’’ weren’t so good in the second half and Fenerbache went ahead with eight points (36-44) having taken lots of offensive rebounds. Johnson reduced to 42-49 but the Turkish team replied with a three-point shot at the end of the quarter. Olympiacos tried to close the margin with Thomas and Mazic scored for 49-54. In the next phases, the ‘’Reds’’ were scoreless and Fenerbarche kept the lead (50-58). Thomas reduced to 54-61 44 seconds before the end but the Greek team couldn’t avoid the first defeat in Euroleague.

But the passion of our players will make us more competitive in the next games. The interruption affected us as we controlled the game at that moment. Of course, we were anxious but stress makes us better. If we aren’t anxious, we don’t have any incentive. Our motivation was high but if you lose the concentration for three minutes, you are back in the score’’.
