The women’s basketball team was defeated by TTT Riga with 51-70 in the fifth Euroleague match. Although the ‘’Reds’’ were ahead with 19-14 in the first period, they weren’t so good offensively in the rest of the game. Johnson was the top scorer with 13 points and Stamati added 8. 

Key action: 

Olympiacos started the game well and led with 13-9 after a three-point shot by Thomas. Johnson scored for 15-11 and two shots by Thomas and Stamolamprou led to 19-14 which was the final score of the first period. TTT Riga did an 8-0 run overturning the score (19-22). The ‘’Reds’’ made some turnovers in the next minutes and TTT Riga took advantage of them and went ahead with 31-34 at the end of the first half. 

Olympiacos had a poor performance at the beginning of the third period and was back with eight points (31-39) with this margin being maintained until the end (39-47).  The Latvian team boosted the difference to +13 (41-54) and the ‘’Reds’’ didn’t achieve to improve its performance and close the score. Finally, TTT Riga got the victory with 51-70.

George Pantelakis said after the match: "Unfortunately, we hadn’t been mentally prepared for this game. TTT Riga focused on the defense and we couldn’t keep up with this rhythm of the game. We had lots of turnovers which led to this bad result. We have to focus on these turnovers, keep going ahead so as to be improved. I never look for excuses. The main reason of the loss was that we weren’t as tough as TTT Riga.  Every player is important for our team and today, we didn’t have Spyridopoulou who in my personal opinion, is one of our best players offensively. This cost us in this game as much as against Hatay BB. But the main reason is that we weren’t so strong in the game. The participation of Anna would be a risk today. I was chatting with the medical department and suggested me not to take this risk. Hope that she will be able to help us in the next game’’.   

Johnson stated: "I think we were very weak in our game today. It was one of the most disappointing games we played at our home.  In the second half we expected their fouls and aggressive game, we weren’t good and we have to be ready for the next game. I take the responsibility of defeating today because I did not lead my team on the court. I had to score more and I think we will be better in the next games’’.
